Azioni politiche contadine, signoria locale, clientele e comunità rurale. Una lettura della disputa tra Ailice d’Este e gli uomini di Calaone per gli incolti locali (1236)
Keywords:
Padua territory, XIII century, Este family, rural communities, rural lordships, conflict, clientele, peasant eliteAbstract
The essay, through the analysis of an unpublished case study, sheds light on the forms and the dynamics of interaction, even in case of conflict, between local societies and rural lords. In particular, it aims at proving that, in the eyes of the local elite, there was no contrast between belonging to the rural community and belonging to the lord’s clientele: in fact, both of them were political resources that could be activated as needed.
