Abstract

The summoning in 1567 of the painter Jacopo Pistoia as a witness in the trial for heresy held in Venice against the Dominican Antonio Volpe, allows recover some of his biographical data, including the real surname. Initially a friend of the friar, met in Gambarare a few years before where the artist had gone «for paintings», Pistoia had become his accuser, attributing to him heretical positions regarding the veneration of images, just as the Dominican was engaged in the commission to a Venetian woodcarver of some statues for the bishop of Lecce.
